Karwa Chauth

Karwa Chauth according to Wikipedia is a one day North- Indian festival where Hindu married women fast from sunrise to moonrise for the safety and longevity of their husbands.

I am from southern part of India and had never witnessed this festival in real but very familiar to the concept thanks to Bollywood movies and Sitcoms. I got married in 2013 and in 2014 my dear friend Neelu invited me to their home for my first Karwa Chauth ever. Since I am a type 2 diabetic person so fasting is out of question but I did perform the rituals with Neelu and all our friends. It was a fun night especially because husbands felt very important, for a change ;)

For the first time I looked at moon through a stainer and then looked at my husband Mr. Rakesh. Rakesh means the Moon in Sanskrit so guess its his day both the ways.

Then we sat together and exchanged puja plates around among girls etc. The ladies also apply heena on their palms the previous day and dress up as Brides in their finest ethnic attire. The rituals vary so much from State to State and I have very little knowledge of them so wont be writing much about it.  For me its a day to celebrate being married and I had lot of fun. Sharing with you pictures of Karwa Chauth 2014.
