I was watching a decade old Bollywood (Indian) movie Dil to Pagal Hai today and I do admit most of our movies are hopelessly romantic. We do have a lot of unbelievable story lines filled with drama and sometimes it doesn't make any sense at all. But am happy that I grew up watching such movies which made me believe in the existence of love and never ending romance.
I sat on the couch with my big bag of chips, enjoying the songs when all of a sudden there was this flash of memory when I remembered practicing the same dance moves in front of the television set until I got it right. It seems amazing to me to realize how much you connect to a movie and how much it really influences you and your perception of life and love.

ReplyDeleteSo am I :) Anita
DeleteOh yes..of course Ananya...Bolly influence is so obvious in our lives. I remember with much glee about one such incident. I had my foot cast after a minor slip gave me a fracture. After several monstrously long weeks of bearing with the cast, it was finally taken off. At that moment I felt like 'Shah Rukh Khan of Koyala'..hehe...if you have seen the movie you would remember..he ran to his freedom shedding casts, slings and the splinter supports on the way...lolzzz. That was my great filmy moment in real life :)
ReplyDeleteOh i remember I cried like a baby... Lolz... Thanks for sharing !
DeleteTo answer your question Ananya-let me take you back in time to a superb movie relevant even today--Satyakam.Please see it.

DeleteAnanya, I remember seeing these movies a decade back too. And it was pure fantasy and so beautiful! And I am definitely influenced by movies while I am watching them, at least :)

Dil Toh pagal hai was quite a rage with the star cast, songs and styling. LOved Karishma Kapoor in this movie so much!

It's been so long since that movie came out! I remember thinking how beautiful the songs were and how anyone could fall in love with Madhuri. Poor Karishma - she never stood a chance. I really enjoyed Dil Dhadake Ne Do. I love the message it had about parents and kids communicating with each other. It's really relevant these days now that desi kids are so much more independent, but parents are unwilling to recognize that.

Namaskara,
ReplyDeleteI can recall a small related story after reading this beautiful write up
When my daughter B H Tanvi Rao was just 2year old I was working in Kolkotta. The mother and child use to wait for me to return from work to spend family time and when i use to reach my little rented house I use to always ask Tanvi which was her most favorite song. Then she would tell " Chuk Dhum Dhum" and i use to tell ok sing and dance for the same. She would sing with the best of her knowledge and pronunciations for a 2 year year old child then. Even when some of our relatives/friends phone call us from our native place Mangalore they would request her to sing it and she use to oblige. We don't have any video recording of the same then but..
After 11 years when she reachedthe age of 13 she happened to actually dance with the chuk dhoom dhum girl during the shooting of dance " Rang se Hui Rangeeli" of movie Gulaab Gang, the earlier days of chuk dhum dhum ran in my mind. With Saroj Khanji as choreographer in a particular sequence in the dance Tanvi holds Madhuri's hands (who sits down) to again get up and continue dance with her.
Never had imagined when the 2 year old danced earlier that she would later actually dance one day with the chuk dhum dhum girl
The video of " Rang SE Hui Rangeeli" of Gulaab gang movie as well as the making of Rang Se Hui Rangeele ( shooting sequence) video are available in google.
You can very well observe Tanvi seeing her chukdhum dhum girl with admiration and disbelief when she is actually performing with the actual chuk dhum dhum girl
you can see it for your self here

Hariprasad Rao
Father of Tanvi Rao
( Tanvi in this video is the 13 year old girl in Chudidaar dancing with Madhuri in the group)
Wow that is so Awesome... I am soo soo happy for you and Tanvi. You must be a proud father :)
DeleteThanks for sharing your story with us !
In fact, whenever I feel sad and disappointed, I go watch an action or romantic movie with happy ending, I don't know how, every time I come back home happy and rejuvenated.
ReplyDeleteI am a movie buff and many a times we picture ourselves in similar situations as movies, my all time fav is Devdas and Life in a Metro.
