Often times we tend to forget what we are and who we are. In the constant hunt of improving yourself and trying to achieve the unachieved, trying to stand out, trying to gain the fame and the name, we forget who we really are. Its laughably very easy to forget how far we have come in life, taking one moment to think how far you have come and what you have achieved can bring that unseen smile on your face or that gratification.
I was telling my friend the other day that we constantly batter ourselves with new challenges in life, new goals to achieve and milestones to reach. I have not for once appreciated myself enough to have achieved all the things that I thought were impossible a year ago.
Interesting thing about us humans is that we constantly evolve, we adapt, change and improve ourselves over time. Ask yourself what and how were you a year ago? 2 years ago? 5years ago? Things change, our thought process change, our opinions develop, things we thought were impossible now seem possible. If you look back and check out your own pictures, you will feel, did i really look that way? Did i really do that? Change happens. Change in life is the only constant. Appreciate what you are and what you have become because of the right things you have done, gift yourself that happiness you deserve.
But then again, there is always going to be a person richer than you, there is always going to be a person who is driving a better car than you. If you are going against that law of nature then you are up for disappointment.
We cannot compare our lives with someone else's life and feel that i am not doing enough, I have not achieved enough. May be i am just a failure. That’s completely insane to think that way. We cannot measure our happiness based on cars we drive, big lavish houses we live and compare that with other’s lives. We just don’t know what’s inside that beautifully decorated wrapper we see.
If you think logically, every one life and life's circumstances are different. Priorities differ. You should be your own competition, challenge yourself than with others.
Don’t get me wrong, having that hunger to grow and achieve larger things in life and living larger is a great quality to have, not everyone can be that. How else would anyone achieve their ambitions if they don’t have that hunger to succeed. It’s equally very important to be content and enjoy what you have and appreciate what you have done.
Look beyond all the imperfections. You are only as better as you think you are!
Really great post!! I totally agree with the statement... "gift yourself that happiness you deserve". I recently did a post titled "Settling Into My Happy Spot" and I've come to realize that although it's important for me to always strive to a better version of myself and achieve my professional/personal goals, it's just as important to be content with where I am today.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this inspiring post! :)

DeleteThanks Reshma .. I jus read ur lovely post:)
DeleteI'm horrible at thinking back over my achievements. I'm stuck in that more more philosophy that you explained of always wanting to do better. I tried to record them for a while to remind me of where I've been. Maybe I'll start doing that again. It's funny how the things that were so important to achieve last year or five years ago are not so important today.

New post on my blog: http://www.milanotime.net/fashion/the-girly-dress/
This is great post from Mr. R. I like this concept. His post made me to plan a weekend getaway (with my team) to celebrate what we really are - the true personalities that we are actually - how we have evolved over the period of time.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad this post had that impact, Vishal.
ReplyDeleteHonestly, he wrote this post Mr.R wrote for me. After spending a weekend together Mr.R noticed that I
wasnt happy from my professional success and the growth of my blog. In the process of dreaming and achieving higher goals I was forgetting to appreciate what I had already achieved. Thats when he sent me this email ;)
And I thought I should share it here cos who knows there may be many out there like me :)
Wow such a great and inspiring post! Mr. R words really resonated with me. And love the second to last line. I so agree - while we all strive to have it all - being content and thankful will ensure you are moving forward with the right intention.
