We were told that one of the Microsoft wallpapers have been photographed from the antelope canyons. So I came home and googled it ,and yeah , it was correct.
We were thrilled to visit and take amazing pictures. Had seen its images when couple of friends visited . Its a 4 hour drive from phoenix ... the drive is one of its kind. it shows us a glimpse of how beautiful its gonna get ahead.
BEST TIME TO GO AND HOW THESE FORMED
The best time to visit them is post winter , the sun reflection would bring a better view of it ,( however its going to lot hotter then). These canyons have been formed million of years ago, with the nature taking its own course of sand and water from the beneath. The grand canyon is widely spread across north , south and west trim. So we visited both the grand canyons(south rim) and the antelope!
LOCATION: THE ANTELOPE CANYONS- PAGE, ARIZONA
There are two parts, upper and the lower antelope . its a tour guide of an hour each amidst the desert.. in thick sand.. wind gushing .. its a typical desert feel there. They take us on a jeep to these antelope canyons. You will need hat/cap, water, sunscreen with greater spf, scarf to protect from the scorching sun.
Its about a mile and half walk inside where the tour guides explain and do their job best. they help us set the mobile and dslr camera settings for the best images.
I like the lower better than the upper. the tour guides actually set your mobile and dslr cameras to get better pictures.
People generally hike here and do the river rafting too and explore spectacular view points.
As you walk inside these canyons, it just takes your breath away. The guide shows us some replica of famous objects like an eagle beak, the "mummy face" lady , the mountain view at the Arizona- Utah border, The sunset view etc. The sandstone is so neatly formed, and its hard to believe that its beauty is going to be damaging when there is flood. When you visit the Lower Canyons, you will have walk down with steep staircase. Earlier when people came to hike or trek they used rope to climb or walk down.
You can google about these canyons and find 1000's of images of people hiking or rafting in here.
THE MEMORIAL AND THE FLASHFLOOD OF COLORADO RIVER
An interesting point to mention is the Colorado river that flows across these canyons , brings with it some warnings. Its a flashflood area in monsoon that's somewhere in September ! If you will google about one such incident, there were few groups who travelled to USA from France with their own tour guide , were washed away in one such flood. All of them died except for the guide. So they have a small memorial at the lower canyons with their names on it .
The water rises to such a high level and as the canyons get narrow the water flows even faster causing lot of damage.
Nature is beautiful and yet it comes with a red flag !!
There is another attraction point here: Lake Powell And Horse shoe Bend.
One of the must visit places in USA.
I so want to go there. Beautiful captures by her
