Just a thought...
World would be a different place "If a Woman was considerate towards another Woman and treat her the way she would like to be treated".
If a mother didn't differentiate between her son and daughter.
If a mother-in-law treated her son's wife as her own daughter.
I think more often we let our own gender down. Its already hard being a Woman and we make it harder by competing with one another. Competition is only good when its taken sportively and positively, if you take it otherwise it leads to jealousy and hatred.
We always complain saying A man wouldn't understand what its like being a Woman and all our related problems... SERIOUSLY ??
You very well understand what it is, Then why pull other women down?
Why make fun of a lady who dresses according to her choice?
Why judge a wife who doesn't like to cook?
Why force a happy 30 year unmarried girl to marry?
Why give endless advices to a wife who has been married for 4 years and has no intentions of becoming a mother ??
Why mock at a working mother for not preparing a 4 course meal at a dinner party?
Why gossip about the most successful professionals who make it big in their fields??
Why make your friend conscious for gaining few extra kgs/pounds??
Why do we keep struggling to be titled as a better Mother and/or Wife than others?
Why don't we just accept that I am doing a great job as a daughter, mother, sister, wife and so is she.
If I am beautiful, she is too.
I have my own struggles, she has hers.
Who better than me will understand what she is going through, why don't I support her instead of nagging her.
Why ???
And at the end more often than not we blame it all on Men, not fair !
I want to tell you a bitter truth and I am sure that you will frown at me. I felt through my long experiences of the society around me that most of these why's raised by you are initiated by women only. Except few exceptional cases Men has to agree and act as per the wish of the mother, wife and sister despite reluctance.
ReplyDeleteAnanya what a brilliant piece. I agree women need to respect women. Why do we go on balming the men. These expectations and differences and ideas of properity are instilled in us by women only namely our mothers. Every mother dreas of a good husband for her daughter and a great career for her son. That is alright if that is what the daughter wants but why the sterotypes associate with women only. Once again very well said.
ReplyDeleteLoveddd it. Believe me, an incomplete post on the same topic is in my draft! Instead of being together, women are interested to pull another woman down.
ReplyDeleteThis was a fab piece of work :) Seriously neither does anyone understand nor is anyone interested to . But if someone does then others again find some reason to find a fault in that woman .
ReplyDeleteI read a quote this morning along the lines of, 'If we want men to understand women, we need to teach them the same things'. I don't know why we need to constantly judge each other. Wish it wasn't so. Visiting from Authentic Blogger.
ReplyDeleteThought provoking piece Ananya and be yourself, it matters the most as an individual rather than conform to society's definition of daughter, mother, wife or sister.

Every wordresonates Truth, Ananya. Unless women support women, nothing will work right !
ReplyDeleteYes,we women bitch a lot.We should stop judging .We must accept all with their virtues as also faults.
ReplyDeleteAgree with this to a very large extent. Women often turn out to one another's roadblock. And yet women also have the potential to be one another's strongest support...if only they stop buying into the societal conditioning that forces them to be judgmental and non-supportive of other women, who are trying to make their independent choices and decisions.
ReplyDeleteFood for Thought...very well written.
ReplyDeleteBrilliantly put, women have reached greater heights and majority of them are happy to support other women. The ones still living in the dark ages need to be educated about it.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed reading your post and thanks for your lovely comment..
ReplyDeleteYes, women are their own worst enemies. We judge, pass remarks and make a huge to-do over things, when all that it takes is a bit of empathy. The world can benefit greatly from it. Good write up, Ananya.
ReplyDeleteJudgements are nt gender segmented. Anything that appears to be a weakness is mocked at. I have seen men also passing such comments so I wil nt take a gender specific stand at it. Nice post
ReplyDeleteOn a lighter vein..... Men??? All such diffferentiation comes to an end when he gets beer ! :P

Excellent post. We need to be there for each other, not putting - not putting other women down!
ReplyDeleteWell said! We keep saying that it is a Man's world and we keep talking of 'men keeping women down,' but is it the bitter truth that women remain their own worst enemies!
ReplyDeleteI think all this questions because most people rather looks into other lifes and gossip, than lookig into themselfs and dealing with teir problems! Since I have stop talking over others life has become more beautiful. Start living your life. Love. Emma
ReplyDeleteBeautifully told.. There is a saying in Tamil, "Avadum pennale, Azhivadum Pennale" meaning, Women is the Constructor, and she is also the destructor.. Either herself or others..
ReplyDeleteI get your point. Women are much more complicated and confused... that's my take on it... which makes getting along with men a bit easier. I try not to be one into treating people differently based on gender, or much else for that matter, and competition in that case is not in me and I can't understand it. But I do see it many times. Makes me feel sorry for us and the men. Writer’s Mark
ReplyDeleteLife is just full of imperfect humanity and it can be very frustrating! I hear ya! I've been guilty of playing the "woman game" of competition. I don't know exactly why we do it... We all need to work on not judging each other and accepting and loving each other. :)
ReplyDeleteYou have put forward your point perfectly... Feels good....
ReplyDeleteI agree completely with the thoughts expressed in your post. I have posted about this in http://proactiveindian.com/2014/03/15/kyunki-maa-baap-ek-din-saas-sasur-banenge-because-parents-will-one-day-become-parents-in-law/
ReplyDeleteI am happy to see so many women commenters agree wholeheartedly with you.
In tackling any social ill, we must first ask ourselves, "What can I do? What can we do?", then ask what others can do.
Perfectly put! Men are a lot less complicated that way. Women never let women grow/succeed. Is there really a solution? I wonder.
ReplyDeleteThis is the bitter truth, woman not supporting other woman. You have brilliantly brought that out.
ReplyDeleteIf ever a woman judges me... I would be high up on their ridicule radar... :)
I have rarely seen Man getting obsessed while putting extra kilo...but women go crazy...the day any lady start loving herself the way they are world would be much better place!!
ReplyDeleteSo very true. Women complicate things more for women than men can ever do. I guess deep inside, women need a confirmation that they really are the best, and therefore they like to pick on other people, to feel good. It is sad, but true in most cases.
ReplyDeleteSo true...You spoke something that I was contemplating for so long..And I agree!!
ReplyDeleteWomen (Un)Judged
Great thoughts Ananya...
ReplyDeleteThe day the saying "Women are women's worst enemies" disappears, world would definitely be a different place.
True, it's nature or nurture or both women don't help or understand other women, usually.
ReplyDeleteSo true!
ReplyDeleteThese questions arise in every woman's mind at some point or the other, judging women on some silly preconceived notions is barbarian! Let us have a life, let us breathe!kudos to you on a wonderful post!

ReplyDeleteThis has been something I have thought about so often...
What about the women who knowingly sleep with men who are married; engaged or in a relationship but have no intention of having anything lasting. They want unattached meaningless "fun"
However when the sh!t hite the fan then they feel betrayed and want to destroy the very man they conspired with and laughed at how much fun they are having and getting away with so much.
Both are to blame, yes but truth is like you say if we supported each other and did not let each other down, or try to break each other down then things would be different.
I don't know ehere it comes from but I wish there we acted more like sisters, mothers, daughters and friends to each other rather than backstab.
I have thought about it a thousand times, funny we do not stand for ourselves, I am jealous of men because they can be friends for life and not site marriage or other things as their reasons for the disconnect, we alienate ourselves and lose our strength by not seeing every other women as our compatriot
ReplyDeleteAll of us have to support each other in a kind manner. It makes life worth living.
ReplyDeleteWhy is it that men get along better than women. Come on let's get with it.
